Title: Rules of Tech

Motley - October 3, 2008 05:06 AM (GMT)
Welcome to our Technology forum. We all love technology, and why not? Technology is obviously a very big part of our lives. It gives you that brand new 42" Plasma wallmount TV, gives you that shiny new Apple iPod, and dude, you're gettin' a Dell!

All outdated early 21st century references aside, there's little doubt that technology is great, so we've got a forum where you can discuss just how great technology is. Clearly, this forum can't be one reliant on anarchy, so we do have a few rules that you'll have to follow.

Luckily, if you've read our Code of Conduct from the General Discussion forum, you know those rules already. It's much the same here as it is over there. There are a few minor differences, though, so take note.

Versus
We love battles, it's natural. So obviously we allow versus topics, such as Mac vs. PC, Linux vs. Windows, iPod vs. Zune, etc. We realize, however, that such versus battles can get heated, so please try to keep it reasonable! We have faith in you to be reasonable and rational as it concerns debate, even though we know that debating technology is a lot like debating religion, with no winners and a lot of heat. We'll be watching to make sure, but keep it in mind: whether the opposition eventually agrees that Windows Vista is better than Mac OS X isn't as important as assuring that you'll be around to witness that day.

P2P and Torrents
I know it's stated elsewhere, but it's worthy of making a note again: yes, you may talk about peer-to-peer technology, how to use, questions, so forth and you may talk about the same with torrents. But please, do not talk about illegal use with those programs. We really enjoy talking about these too, but it's hard for anyone to talk about it when we have to close the topic and warn some of the participants. Plus it sort of lowers the morale.

Miscellaneous Illegal Content
As noted elsewhere and even above, illegal content is not allowed to be discussed. Even though Metallica's Death Magnetic may have leaked (actually one month ago yesterday), you're not allowed to post the link to a download of it. Likewise, don't talk about pirated software, such as the ever-popular-on-forums Photoshop series, and definitely don't talk about serial numbers that can be used to activate these.

In fact, if anything seems questionable, hit me up with a PM and I'll tell you whether or not it's allowed to be discussed. As always, if you see anyone in clear violation of rules, feel free to PM either myself or an online staff member. If no staff members are online (we can't cover all 24 hours of the day, you know!), PM me.

Thanks for reading, and happy technology chatting!
