Title: iPhone
Roi - June 8, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Well, now that half the world have heard about this anticipated device..
Question is, who's gonna get one?
:D
Ps. Release date is June 29th.
Ian - June 10, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
I saw on a commercial it comes out June 27th I think. I may be wrong though.
Roi - June 11, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
29th, saw it on the Apple website.
Clay W - June 11, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Idk, about it, it seems like it might be a great phone, but with my experiences with Apple products, i will probably not get one. lol
Evit-Morningstar - June 11, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
Looks cool to me, but it'll cost waaaay too much to be worth it. Maybe in a couple years when the price goes down. Though I will say that the new voice mail system that they have is really cool.

If I may point out, when Apple first released the iPod in 2001, comments ranged from "Who's gonna pay 300 bucks for a music player?" to "This is the death of Apple." They were wrong. Very wrong. To all the iPhone haters and doubters out there, may I just say, watch what you say. It may come back to haunt you, in a very big way.

I for one, don't think it'll be the phone that will suck. Its the fact that its on Cingular/ATT network that will kill it. If they open it up to different networks, you will indeed see the iphone sweep...that is as long as the touch keyboard wins with texters.
Evit-Morningstar - June 12, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Except that they can't open it up to all networks because they had to completely redesign ATT's voicemail system to work with the iphone. And that contract locked them into working with only ATT.
And to robshoy: I'm not saying the iphone won't take off, but I think it'll take it a little while. It's like the ps3. There's a point at which people just won't pay for something. And I think for a cell phone $500 - $600 is too much. It'll drop, and when it does I expect it'll become a lot more popular.

http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/06/12/1922232...And with that, the Iphone being totally revolutionary died. No SDK = no development of incredible programs for the phone.
Say hello to lockin and a mediocre product.
robshoy - June 12, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
You're wrong sir, just wrong. :P We all knew it was going to be locked. The compromise is actually really great. I'm SO happy it's not completely open. If it was, you'd be complaining about it being prone to viruses and spyware. If I'm paying 5-600 bucks for a phone, every app better be perfect with multi-touch, I don't want Joe Shmo's port of some crappy Palm text editor. I want Apple-approved apps. For the people that DO want other apps, web apps are WAY more powerful now than ever. Google Docs is comprable to Open Office now, and even better than other text editors, and it can export in .doc and Pages format, so it's compatible. GMail is better than most mail clients these days anyway. And btw, widgets, do you know what they're made out of? CSS and Javascript. They can theoretically be run on any internet browser. So developers could make widgets and they would work both on Mac OS X and the iPhone. I don't see what there is to complain about here, Chris. Plus, AJAX is going to be supported, as are Web 2.0 apps, HTML, Javascript, they've confirmed that the browser on the iPhone is exactly the same as Safari. And Safari is currently the most web standards compatible browser in the industry. Even more so than Firefox, or especially Internet Explorer and Opera.
Chris B. - June 12, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
except for the fact that your average speed will be less than that of a 56k modem if you're using a normal cell connection. Which means your Web 2.0 apps, Javascript, and AJAX coding is going to be running mighty slow.
I'm not trying to sound negative as hell about this, i'm just not one to jump on board of a phone similar to a hiptop which is only getting popularity because everyone thinks OMGIPOD!!
(On that note, my next notebook will be a macbook, so please, don't call me an apple hater =))

We can't assume that man. They could (and are rumored to) be releasing an iPhone-specific data plan. And Cingular/AT&T has a very fast internet connection. I know because we're on Cingular and my dad's smartphone online is hella fast. Plus, AJAX and Javascript are all pretty simple things for a phone to process, and don't really require that fast of a connection in the first place.
Evit-Morningstar - June 13, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
And actually, javascript is processed by the client so as long as the page loads the actual program will be fast. And ajax appliciations (which is just javascript) send very small files to the server, so internet connection speed should not be a major factor.

I dunno what you guys are talking about but I wont get it. :P
I'd break it.
FF7 - June 13, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
im thinking about getting one
joeydobbo - June 13, 2007 09:32 PM (GMT)
This looks really interesting I might get one.
SunnyxLove - June 14, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
I wanted one at first, but I heard the monthly payment is outrageous considering it has internet with it.
robshoy - June 15, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
The monthly plan has been rumored to be 30 bucks, which is reasonable for a data plan. But, we'll see. :)
SunnyxLove - June 15, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
At verizon wireless ther estimate is 112$
>.<

I ASSURE you that's not true. The highest plan from Cingular/AT&T is 50 bucks a month or something. You really trust what a competitor says? XD
Shadow Addict - June 16, 2007 07:41 PM (GMT)
It's a damn cool device, no doubt. I want one badly.
But not in the way that would actually make me pick one up. I just want one in the way that every technologically-inclined person wants every cool gadget that has ever existed.

The plans for this phone are going to be incredibly expensive. Phone plans ALONE from Cingular/ATT are 50/month. Throw in a required data plan, text messaging, and whatever they bang you for itms usage and you're easily looking at 100/month
.Black - June 18, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
Ouch.
It's still a wicked device though.

Don't talk if you don't know Chrissy. ;) It's probably going to be 30 bucks a month, finished. Do you even use Cingular? I do, and we don't pay monthly, we play yearly. The phone's 500 asking price ALREADY includes the 2 year plan. You don't pay anything besides the data plan after you buy it. The highest Cingular data plan is 40 bucks, not 50, i checked. And the rumors are since the phone doesn't support 3G (which is the ONLY downside of this thing) it's gonna cost just $30 dollars. Deal with it, the iPhone isn't as expensive as your mind likes to think it is. :P
Also thought I'd throw this out there. Apple released a press statement. The iPhone has been upgraded quite a bit.
It now features up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback, and the best part of all, up to 250 (Over ten days) hours of standby time.
Apple also announced that it has upgraded the entire top surface of the iPhone, including its display, from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity.
So... let's see, the top two reasons for complaining are gone. The battery is now better than most phones on the market, and it's going to be scratch resistant. Yeah, this phone looks sweet.

It sure looks interesting to say the least. I doubt I'll be getting one however. I live in an incredibly small town and buying a cell phone is a complete waste of money. I would definitely consider it if I lived in the city though.
