Title: Gun Control

Nir - May 1, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
This was mentioned in another topic: In light of what happened at VA Tech, do you think any changes need to be made to gun control?

I personally think that the answer is yes. The fact that a guy who had mental issues and even went to a place about it was able to buy guns and amo is scary. I do not think that crimes are directly correlated to the amount of a population that has guns, but I do believe that who has access to guns needs to be a carefully managed list for people that have a higher risk to hurt others such as mental patients.

I think security definitely needs to be upped and that limits need to be issued on who can own guns. Sorry the whole Virginia Tech thing was insane.

I never thought of it as a security issue and not a gun control issue. How did he manage to get away and shoot more when he was identified during the first round of shooting?

I have 2 shotguns... But I'm not sick or anything. :)

Hunting stuff.

But I see what Nir means, how can one guy do all of this without being stopped after 2 hours of someone who must have seen him.

I have this same topic on my forum so here is a quote as to my main point on my forum.

QUOTE
I think they should be allowed. They can save lives if used cautiously. Also, if you ban guns criminals that kill are still criminals. They can buy guns illegally. So, either allow the students to carry guns or the professors only.

"I don't think so because somebody could get mad and then shoot everybody and then there would be a shoot off in a classroom, which would essentially be sick (only if you're not the one getting shot)"

Yeah someone could do that but then think how many people will they kill? What happens when one kid shoots the other kid with a gun before he kills even two people when he felt like killing the entire class room of students?

Amasian: The point remains though that you've got students in a school with guns. That's bad no matter what. Give them to teachers and train them. That's what should be done. Nothing more.

Yes.

Gun control should be having two hands on your firearm. The reason the U of Texas Shootings in 1966 was so unsuccessful was because students were firing back at the shooter in the belltower.

If only VT had allowed weapons on the property, he would have run into at least one person who was armed and perhaps we would only have three or four dead, including the shooter.

I think there must have a kind of judging to someone who's registering his gun. Like... If he's in condition to have one. If he got mental problems, he shouldnt.

I think who ever is buying a gun should be questioned and have their criminal records pulled up to make sure that this person is not crazy. And also family criminal records.

SassyBoy:You shouldnt hate guns because they are good If you use them for peace and not war. In other words, Guns are good for protection & not just killing for no good reason.

The law at the moment is that you have to be 21 to purchase a hand gun and they also run a background check to see if you are a felon. Should they enforce the law further? Yes, But what should be done?
