Title: Global Warming

Nir - April 15, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
It's kinda of wierd, I'm watching The Day After Tomorrow as the news is breaking through about new york's spring tie weather, with snow just to the north of them. This is all too real and it's getting almost too real.

Do you think we are at fault for these weather patterns?

euro.pholic - April 15, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
the day after tomarrow is a movie, also, if we are causeing global warmin, why would it be snowing? hm? right!

Nir - April 15, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
I'm aware that its a movie, and just that but the movie sites a snow storm in the north because of global warming trends. Heat causes snow caps to melt which adds fresh water to salt water which alters jet streams and currents in the ocean which causes weather to shift.

The question is could this really be happening? Or is it all political play?

justsomekidhere - April 16, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
It may happen in the future but I think by then we'll have ways to stop it...

But the damage will likely be irreversible by that time, what happens then? If we do not take the time and effort to lower our fuel usage limit air pollution now, we could be headed in a very dangerous direction.

Gerjen - April 16, 2007 10:14 AM (GMT)
It's warmer now then it used to be in the summer. I like.

Amasian - April 16, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Global Warming is a natural process.

robshoy - April 16, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
^No, no it isn't. It's a natural process that human beings have escalated to make it much faster than it should be.

Oh, and thought I'd just throw this juicy chunk of info out there: We just got 1-2 feet of snow. In the middle of April. Climate change much? ::looking::

Gerjen - April 16, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
32 celcius here :D-

32 C is 89 F... you'd burn...

Gerjen - April 16, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
Getting brown :D

Here in the southeast, things are going crazy, during the weekend it was just above freezing, not its high 80s.

Ok, we may have escalated it. But some people still fail to realize some facts. The activity of the Sun has been increasing. Also, if you think about it then our next ice age will be warmer and not as cold.

Little snippet of information: The "science" used to disprove global warming is a pseudo-science, with absolutely atrocious "evidence." While the threat of global warming is somewhat exaggerated, it will be one of many things that may affect human life in the future.

Global warming is an actual threat, and I'm unsure why many people deny the evidence. Is conservatism simply an ideology to do the "opposite" of what factual evidence may provide? It's becoming so in my opinion.

A theory known as "global cooling" suggests that after some of the rising effects of global warming, the amount of water vapor (originating from the poles) increases; this eventually causes an onset of high cloudbursts, causing a higher rate of storms, including rain and snow.

Sobriquet. - April 18, 2007 10:08 AM (GMT)
No doubt the earth is getting warmer, but to as whether we are doing it, is extremly debatable in my opinion. Take cars, planes, industry etc, the carbon emissions from these thing are nothing in comparison to Volcanoes erupting or even the sea. They say CO2 causes it, actually methane and watervapour causes global warming more, cows farting has more of an effect than a car driving a few miles. When the industrial revolution started, and all that CO2 was being emitted, the earths temperature actually fell, for 30 years, it only started to rise in the mid 70's, but the temperature has fluctuated over hundreds and thousands of years.

In my opinion, Global Warming is a band wagon people like to jump on because it makes them feel like they care about something, did anyone see that episode of Pen and Teller where they got those stupid hippies to sign a petition banning water? That's what I mean about jumping on a band wagon.

:)

Most rational people agree that global warming is real and is indeed a threat now, and even irrational people started to agree with that once Al Gore's movie made money. If you still disagree with Climate Change being a reality that we have caused and one that is already starting to haunt us, you're living in a very lonely world. Very, very lonely.

If that was directed at me, I do not live in a lonely world. I refuse to follow propaganda.

If you want to see evidence of people jumping on bandwagons, check here :)

Yes, the Earth is warming up, but it is not solely down to human activity, that's what I am saying. Al Gore has become an Eco Warrior because he has nothing better to do, he didn't get president, so it put him out the picture, he needed to get back in.

Do you want to know a real 'Inconvenient Truth"?

Al Gores electricity and gas bill came to $30,000 in 2006. Al Goe's home uses 20 times more energy than the National Average.

And then you get idiots, like Gordon Brown, taxing cars and planes, why? Because they emit CO2? Wow, way to stop climate change ::looking::

Amasian - April 18, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
^^ Al Gore's gas bill being that high is and inconvenient truth. ^^

And you know what my teacher said when a student brought up Al Gore's gas bill up in the discussion of his movie? He was all like "That is an ad homenim. fahahgadsjfadsahaasghtrhdfhgafd." However, he fails to realize how relevant this is to the discussion. If Al Gore is promoting to "stop" global warming he should be an example to lead people to do such a thing. But we don't have any real leaders in America anymore except for George Bush. Democrats just follow they don't lead. George Bush started a new thing he didn't follow the people the followed him.

Gerjen - April 18, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
George bush is a monkey. He may lead but he's still a monkey. Following a monkey is stupid.

xXkakruaXx - April 18, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
Global Warming is real, but it is used by politicians to gain strength in the races and to boost up their support. It is proven that after every ice age the Earth warms up, which is happening now, but I do think that we humans are adding to this just a little bit, which is why we are warmer that the other warm part of other last ice ages. Al Gore makes no sense to me, as he talks about saving the Earth and conserving, yet his house consume way more electricity than a normal house would consume in a year. But for those people who say this stuff is fake, it's not, it's just the circle of the Earths weather patterns.

And yes, the spring does seem cold and snowy up north US, but down south it's been dry and warmer. We are down 40% our natural rain fall.

All democrats blindly follow? George Bush is a good leader?

Yes, I think America has finally turned into a terrible, terrible country, full of sycophancy. What ever happened to the liberty aspect of the U.S.? Did it shrivel up and die with the rise of Reagan?

Why yes, yes it did shrivel up, but it was after Reagan when it started.

I personally don't care about global warming. It isn't going to affect me or my kids or even grandkids so it's their problem not mine, end of story. By then we should have a colony on the moon to escape to anyway... ::looking:: Oo

Or Mars, don't forget about that place. Yea, even if it won't effect us, we still should take care of our environments, cause we all know the next generation of people will be stupid.

There is 0.035% Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere. 3% of that is cause by human activity..not very much eh?

I'd like to know what the source of that is. From what I know, though you can't track exactly how much we're to blame of all the carbon dioxide, what you can see is global trends going back 300,000 years and we are not at a phase that we have 300% more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than any other time.

The way they track it is through ice in antarctic.
