Title: Falling support for the Iraqi war

Why do you think support is falling for the Iraqi war? And in all honestly, why is America still involved?

To be honest, I don't have a clue, but I can try to narrow it down. It's not terrorism related because terrorists and Iraq have not been linked to this day. In fact, Saddam hated terrorists and conflicted with Al Qaeda for example. Allow me to quote the Washington Post's report: "The Sept. 11 commission reported yesterday that it has found no "collaborative relationship" between Iraq and al Qaeda". The other options Grace gave seem too immoral to make sense. They were not even labeled with Bush's axis of evil.We went to war because Bush made it clear to all of us that IRAQ HAD WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, weapons that were a threat to us and to his own people. Everyone here knows how that arguement turned out. Regardless of specifically what the motives were for starting the war, I believe they were misguided, but now that we are involved, we should complete the goal of stabilizing Iraq, and not just getting up and leaving when it is worse than the country started off.

Opposition is not according to my belief dropping because of this war's length. Support is dropping for the Iraqi war because Bush and his leadership has lacked the ability to make powerful effecting speeches that convey any level of sustainable progress in Iraq. We haven't even asked the Iraqi people whether or not they want us. If our cause is justified, a majority will say yes, and our confidence and support will rise.

THIS WAR IS DIFFERENT, we are not fighting against a uniformed organized military force. I don't think many people realize the difference, and I don't think many people understand that you can't line people up and identify the terrorists. WE ARE FIGHTING A MINDSET in the war on terror, not to be confused with a religion. In the Iraqi war we declared war against the Iraqi government and successfully disabled it, not leaving much in its place. Then, people, not necessarily allied with the former government, started fighting our presence and that is unlike any major previous war.

In regards to McCain's stated quote, if I was asked to describe Iraq right now, I would probably use the word "chaos". I don't know much about the Iraqi state of politics and the mindset of the Iraqi people, I don't know if they believe we are helping. If they do believe so, I would support staying in America, but because things aren't working out well for anyone with American soldiers on the ground. I believe that our power and global influence could be much better expressed to do good for Iraq if we stepped back and funded infrastructure development and political growth, providing armed service and technological support only under the authority and at the discretion of the Iraqi people. This would allow the Iraqi people themselves to nationalize or sort things out and stabilize their politics, they, not us, have the understanding of the country's culture, sects, and devisions that impact the mindset of those that are creating instability.
